Elaine's Little impulsive adventure in Europe June 2008
I've got 300+ photos for a 10 days trip. There's so many tht i am getting a little lazy to blog it one by one. So i got it all compiled. The trip was very different from work trips and i enjoyed every single part of it. It's my first time travelling alone. Heard all sorts of negative reviews of solo travelling but it was far more enjoyable than i thought it would be. I'll most probably do it again! =D Few tips though: Do bear an open mind and open heart when you travel alone. That way you'll meet more people than you'll ever think of! Meeting people and chatting up with each other is the best part of the trip. I've met people who eventually travelled with me. Those who went party with me. Those who went sightseeing with me. And those whom i merely talked for a few hours and wrote me this touching letter before she left. I was so touched! It's followed by the beautiful sights and the booze everyday! Food comes in fourth. Part that i dislike most is carrying the 16kg backpack which made me so tired physically and eventually emotionally. I didnt do much planning. I simply decided on where i wanted to go and took the flight out to frankfurt. Thereafter, i was lucky to get all the hostels that i want to live in except the one in amsterdam. I was so tired emotionally when i got to amsterdam that i departed one day earlier back to Singapore. But it was a wise choice because i can always get an amsterdam on work trips and i miss my dog so much!

I set of on the 3rd straight after my hongk0ng turn and i was sooooo tired! But i managed to catch some sleep on the 12hs flight to frankfurt. Finally got to frankfurt and i took another 4hs train to Berlin. Finally to Berlin by afternoon!

Very new and nice hostel. There's even a pool! On a rating of 10, i'll give it an 8. Except that the atmosphere wasnt that great. But everything was very carefully taken care of by the hostel. Location was excellent! Right in the heart of everything!

I've got no idea if this will be ban here but its one of those erotic museums! Last picture on the right shows beads used by geishas. I wonder what they used that for? =X

Famous Brandenburg Gate, parliament house and the famous hotel(picture on the left hand side behind) that couple of years ago, michael jackson had his child hanging out of the window for reporters to take photos. Yah thats the infamous one.

went onto one of those free walking tour. Very gd tour. Informative and guide was v interesting!

This is one of the jewish memorial located minutes away from the parliment. It acts as a reminder to those who pass by here everyday of what happened in the 1940s.

Is it true that he really died there? I remember my history book said otherwise. But whatever it is, the bunker has now turned into a car park where ppl parked their cars and where they bring their dogs to poo.

The infamous Berlin wall. Yeah that's all that's left now. Berlin wall was part of the iron curtain that seperates berlin into two and germany into west and east germany. One night, the soviets decided to build a wall to seperate the two sides and it seperated many from their families and loved ones for 28 years. On that fateful night, some people maybe in east berlin watching a movie. And the next thing they know, they were stucked in east berlin for 28 years. It fell in1989 on the night when a member of the parliment announced the fall but it was not intentional. According to my guide, he said that the guy didnt attend the parliament meeting, had got no idea what he was talking about but just went on about it and finally after 28 yrs, the wall fell.

I told this girl(my colleague) once that you can get berlin wall as a piece of souvenir and the girl laughed at my face. Hey. its true! But now it's no longer available. All i've got is a piece of concrete that claims to be the berlin wall. It's still unique anyway.

This is how to tell east berlin from west berlin. East berlin has got this different green man & red man from the rest of the world!

Oh my first pub crawl was in berlin but i gave up at the first stop. All thx to one of my roommate. !@@$#%^

Ben's another of my room mate from texas, huston! We met in baxpax and when i switched my travel plans from going to warsaw to prague, we survived the train ride together.
